Grants FAQs

General questions

  • Yes! Grant opportunities are managed independently from one another, so participation in one does not bar you from being eligible for other Austin Community Foundation grants or funding opportunities.

  • Each grant program may have different eligible locations. The grant programs that are intended to serve Central Texas do not require that an organization be in Central Texas. However, if you are applying for a grant opportunity that is specific to Central Texas, we ask that you ensure your funding request applies only to work done in one of the following counties: Travis, Burnet, Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, and Williamson.

  • ACF staff completes a basic eligibility review of all applications for our grant opportunities. From there, each opportunity has its own rubric and review committee who ultimately make the funding decisions. • You cannot directly apply to our fundholders’ funds outside of a grant cycle. However, funder information is provided on all ACF grant transmittal letters (if not marked as anonymous). We encourage organizations to steward these fundholders through their own channels.

  • Many of our grant opportunities award various levels of funding within a specified range. It is possible you will receive a grant that is not at the maximum level for those opportunities.

  • In general, Austin Community Foundation recommends applying for no more than 30% of your annual operating budget, but applying for what you need within that range.

  • Please use the grant recipient media kit to publicly acknowledge any grant received from Austin Community Foundation. Please also refer to your grant agreement for any other specific requirements regarding publicity and recognition.

  • Most of our grant programs require a grant agreement and final report, both of which are assigned and managed through our grant portal. These requirements can vary between opportunities. If you’ve already received an award, please refer to your award letter or email to see details regarding required follow-ups. If your award does not require an agreement or report, that will be noted in your award letter or email.

Application and technology tips

  • Applications for all of our grant programs must be filled out and submitted through Austin Community Foundation’s grant portal. Using our grant portal, you will be able to view available grant opportunities, save drafts of your requests, collaborate with colleagues, see award decisions and details, and access any required follow-up forms connected to your awards.

An account is needed to access the grant portal. If you believe your organization already has an account in our system, instead of creating a new one, please email us.

  • The materials you will need to complete an application usually include the following:

    • IRS letter stating your tax-deductible status

  • The eligibility questions are designed to help you determine if your proposal will qualify for a grant. If you have answered the questions and are unable to access the application, it is likely that your proposal does not meet the requirements for funding. However, if you feel your proposal does meet the funding requirements, email us.

  • Accepted file formats and size limits for attachments are dependent on what type of document we are asking for. Within an application, the accepted file type and size limit is detailed for each individual field. If you have a different file type or size that cannot be uploaded, please email us.
